In just 20 years Dubai, one of the seven states that make up the United Arab Emirates, turned from a sand desert into a dazzling oasis of skyscrapers and giant man-made islands. In the boom times, Dubai had the hottest properties in the world. Up until recently, Dubai has been the center of a modern-day gold rush. After this documentary was made, Dubai’s property market experienced a major economic downturn, but is slowly recovering.
Still Dubai is impressive—it has the world’s tallest building, some of the largest shopping malls, and looks like a nice place to live. Too bad that Dubailand—the world’s largest theme park was canceled. The park was going to include a Las-Vegas-stile strip, only four times bigger and life-size replica’s of the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal.
